We all know job injuries happen. But did you know the severity of your work-related injury determines what level of workers’ compensation coverage you receive? The four main types of coverage include:

  1. Temporary partial disability
  2. Temporary total disability
  3. Permanent partial disability
  4. Permanent total disability

Total disability encompasses any injury or illness that results in the complete inability to work, whether temporary or permanent. But what if your disability allows you to continue work, but results in job modification or relocation that yields lower pay? This is where partial disability comes in.

Partial disability covers the loss of income associated with your injury. In Georgia, if you are able to return to work, but can only get a lower paying job as a result of your injury, you will receive a reduced benefit based upon your earnings for a maximum of 350 weeks from the date of injury. This benefit will not exceed $450.00 per week, if your accident occurred on or after July 1, 2019.

Workers’ compensation can be tricky to navigate. With so many variables determining the outcome of your case, it is important to hire a highly-skilled workers’ compensation attorney to fight for your rights and ensure you receive the maximum care and compensation you are entitled to as a worker.
